About Francesca Moretti

I am a Molecular Biologist with a special interest and significant expertise in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. I obtained my PhD in 2011 for the work conducted in Matthias Hentze's Research Group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany. From 2012 until 2015 I did postdoctoral research at the University of Basel (Switzerland), Department of Biomedicine, in Professor Pertz's Cell Migration and Neuritogenesis Research Group. My research was funded by an EMBO Long-Term Postdoctoral Fellowship. Since May 2015 I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel. My research focus is autophagy in disease-relevant settings.I am passionate about the importance of basic biomedical research in the development of new therapies by the pharmaceutical industry. I won a Scientific Writing competition on this topic at the 12th International EMBL PhD Symposium in 2010. One of my strengths is writing and editing scientific manuscripts and scientific communications. I recently gained the European Medical Writers Association Multidisciplinary Foundation Certificate and pursued training in clinical study planning and conduct (Certificate of Advanced Studies in Clinical Trial Planning and Conduct, University of Basel). To deepen my knowledge about clinical research, I am currently performing work-shadowing in a clinical department at Novartis.
