As an assistant psychologist you hold a central position in the team having an overview on both the clinical work of the team in addition to the administration side. My role involved co-facilitating assessments of new service users, writing assessment reports and patient letters, creating quarterly and end of year service reports, working therapeutically 1:1 with individuals, organising and facilitating groups for both parents and young people alongside keeping databases up-to-date and entering and reporting on measures which indicate current and comparative outcomes on wellbeing.

Working in a CAMHS inpatient unit my roles main focus was on the safety and wellbeing of the young people (YP) in my care. My duties involved supporting YP therapeutically, supervising in communal areas, supporting the facilitation of unit groups, organising outings, co-ordinating the daily routine and any additional activities such as walks and crafts, writing notes and helping to formulate care-plans/safety plans/psychological formulations.

In my final year at university I undertook the role of Nightline Coordinator for the Wellbeing and Diversity section of the student union. Nightline is a nationwide listening service ran by students for students. The Loughborough University’s Nightline Service opened three times a week. The coordinators role entailed leading a 12- member committee and managing a team of over 50 volunteers. My responsibilities involved managing the committee, ensuring policies and procedures were adhered to, organising publicity events and training weekends for new volunteers in addition to doing support shifts with volunteers. I was also a volunteer prior to taking the role.

The role involved data analysis of the Young People’s Survey, an online based questionnaire given to all school children in years six, eight and ten. The questionnaire breached topics relevant to island life such as drug and alcohol exposure, nutrition and exercise and health and wellbeing. I presented the data at a conference to officials and representatives of education and health services and politicians, in addition to creating a range of public resources to give to schools, commission leaders and relevant associations to demonstrate areas of child development requiring improvement. I also conducted physical activity assessments in all island schools to assess fitness in relation to mainland equivalents.

In supplement to my diploma working at Great Ormond Street Hospital, I worked in the evenings as medical secretary. I was responsible for taking payments at the practice, preparing paper work for the clinicians and permitting access to the building.

Diploma of Professional Studies - I spent a year as a student psychologist in the Great Ormond Street Feeding Disorder team. My role was varied with admin based work along with providing supervised therapeutic input. I assisted the clinicians with preparing therapeutic resources, contributed to research projects, maintained the clinic's database and analysed routine outcome measures for service improvement.

As assistant coach I worked with children ranging from 2-15 years old, helping run the classes, taking the warm up, and coaching throughout the sessions. I thoroughly enjoyed this job as it combined my love of gymnastics and passion and joy of working with children. The job required good time keeping, organisation, gaining respect and trust from the children, encouragement, responsibility and socialisation skills to interact with the parents and the children.

The role involved assisting customers with their shopping in sports items and fitting children with school uniforms; the shop was one of two designated places in which island wide schools could buy uniform from. Among these duties were cashing up, stock taking and till work, the role required good interpersonal skills, keeping calm under pressure and hard work.
