About Francesco D'Emilio
When I was little I loved old mechanical watches. I disassembled them and I enjoyed the complex mechanism inside and the ingenuity of those who had designed them. That was the time I decided I wanted to be a mechanical engineer.I graduated as mechanical engineer, but I did never fix broken watches anymore. Even though the passion for understanding and addressing complex problems has remained.I’ve been spending my 20+ years professional life in big companies and I’ve been exposed to different areas of the business in an international environment.I started in technical/technological roles where I learned a lot about process management and continuous improvement. I was taught lean manufacturing methodologies and statistical methods (six sigma black belt) and extensively applied them with brilliant results.Later on I moved to capital project management activities where I had to put in practice my finance knowledge and risk analysis/management/mitigation skills.I also applied and improved my ability to persuade people with my empathetic approach. Many capital projects were successfully developed those years in places far away (Poland, India, Malaysia). Then it came the time to restructure part of the domestic business and again my skills to interact with people were needed along with the desire to innovate and test new solutions. It was hard to break down existing habits and customs, but it was my duty as change agent. With the aim of put in practice the restructuration plan, I was moved to production management were enormous efforts were needed to win resistance to change and innovative solutions were sought using problem solving attitude. Hard efforts resulted in amazing achievement.Another change was behind the corner and I moved to a customer facing role as Overall Project Manager for new business development. All previously acquired skills were needed with the addition of a customer focused approach. Many new models were successfully launched with a smooth handover to the production team. Finally a Quality manager role was waiting for me with direct interaction with customers for complaints management and Quality service, but also with suppliers for supplied materials and components quality and with the internal team for the laboratory and metrology activities and the silkscreen plant. A 360° role which requires a wide panel of skills and extensive experience.
