Provision of engineering consultancy services: framework contract F4E-OFC-800 (client: Fusion for Energy), engineering support for the design verification of the Electron Cyclotron Upper Launcher (ITER Nuclear Fusion Reactor)Main responsibilities:• Design verification of mechanical components by means of structural and thermo-fluid analyses (ANSYS Mechanical and Fluent).• Structural integrity assessment according to international Codes and Standards (RCC-MR, SDC-IC, ASME BPVC Section VIII div. 2).

Development of computational models to simulate and optimise cardio-vascular implantable devices.Research Activities:• Developed novel models of blood flow and oxygen transport in Star-CCM+ (CFD) and of vascular wall deformation in Abaqus Cae (FEA/FEM) for the analysis and design of more reliable Arterio-Venous Fistulae.• Implemented an innovative machine-learning optimisation framework to identify vascular connections with enhanced oxygen transport.Skills Acquired:• Broad experience using engineering simulation packages: Abaqus CAE, StarCCM+• Machine learning models, surrogate Gaussian process regression/Kriging and Neural Network• Coding of user-defined Fortran and C libraries to customise CAE models• Participated to a pilot study to assess the feasibility of a newly designed implantable medical device• Use of Matlab, Python and R scripts for the pre- and post-processing and statistical analysis of large datasets• Knowledge of the architecture and usage of multi-node HPC clusters and administration/maintenance of Linux HPC servers• Co-supervision of MSc and BSc final year projectsOutreach Activities Public Relations:Presenter at 4 scientific conferences; produced multimedia material for interviews which featured our team work for ‘Channel 4’; presenter at 2 Imperial College outreach events.
