I am a Partner Researcher at Microsoft Azure, where I leverage my expertise in fibre optics and hollow-core fibre technology to revolutionise global cloud services and improve everyone's digital life. I have over 20 years of experience in fibre optics research, both in academia and industry, and I hold a PhD in Optoelectronics from the University of Southampton.I am also a Professorial Fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton, where I lead a multidisciplinary team working on modelling, fabrication and characterisation of optical fibres of all types. I have been awarded multiple personal fellowships, research council grants and industrial contracts for my research on hollow-core fibres, which have demonstrated novel principles and world-record performance. In 2016, I co-founded Lumenisity, a startup based on a novel hollow-core fibre design developed in my group. After 6 years of growth and success, we sold Lumenisity to Microsoft in December 2022. I am passionate about bringing scientific discoveries to market and creating positive impact for society.
