Director General. Manager National Cluster On Transports
CurrentHe is Director General of Radiolabs and Manager of the National Cluster of Transports since March 2021. He was working with Ansaldo STS since 2011 and then Hitachi Rail STS until November 2021 as chief of satellite operations and relationships with space agencies. He has contributed to the development of new technological platforms for safety-related satellite localization of the train and for intelligent multi-bearer telecom solutions based on cellular- satellite public networks. He has contributed to the ERSAT - ERTMS + Satellite program and its development and test. He has coordinated the working group of the NGTC WP-7 program for the introduction of the satellite localization application foreseen in the evolution roadmap of ERTMS signaling system. Until November 2021 he was a board’s director of Galileo Services, the European down-stream industry association for satellite applications, coordinating the plans for satellite applications developments in the rail sector. He is director general of Radiolabs – a University-Industry consortium between Hitachi Rail, WestPole, University of Roma Tre, University of Tor Vergata - Roma and University of l'Aquila. In 2012 he has been awarded the innovation prize by Finmeccanica for the invention of a train localization system based on a multi-constellation approach which later was chosen for the National Innovation Awards Prize, a prestigious recognition among the winners of the innovation awards conferred nationally each year and assigned to Ansaldo STS from the president of Senate. He is author of several papers published on international symposia and magazines and has been lecturer for the University of Genova “Summer School on Satellite & Space Communications” and to the Seminars organised by University Roma TRE and l'Aquila on the railways and connected car.

Chief New Initiatives
From 2005 to 2011 he has been with Telespazio, initially as head of value added services and later as chief of new initiatives in vertical sectors of railways, e-health and emergency management. In these fields he pioneered new applications based on innovative platforms such as SkyplexNet conceived to access autonomously the satellite resources and that has allowed, among the others, Fire Brigade and Civil Protection to realize the first national satellite network with shared resources and connected with their operational centers for ensuring telecom, video and data transmissions with proper in-field mobile units deployable during emergencies. He has been board director of Telbios, the first telemedicine company, whose he has been one of the founders and that became leader on e-health applications and technological partner of Ministry of Defense for developing their telemedicine network to support the peace-keeping international missions. For the railways sector he has managed and validated with Trenitalia an innovative satellite-based platform for high-speed lines internet access and video broadcasting. He has coordinated the joint working group established with RZD (Russian railways operator) to identify and validate the satellite technologies for railways applications.

From 1983 to 2005 he has worked for Alenia Spazio (now Thales Alenia Space) where was nominated manager in 1991 and served various positions as head of marketing and R&D programs for the European Space Agency and Italian Space Agency, director general of EuroSkyWay, the Alenia Spazio subsidiary created for broadband satellite applications, the first in Europe to get a license from Italian Ministry of Telecommunication to operate pre-operational services in ka-band. He has been vice president of multi-media business unit which gave birth to SkyplexNet commercial services by deploying the operational service center and signing contracts with early-adopters: ENEL the Italian electricity provider for their Web-TV reaching about 1200 locations, University Cattolica for tele-education courses, Openet and Fire Brigade. During these years he has mastered new satellite technologies, based on the ka-band, that later have been adopted on new generation satellites , and pursuing strategic agreements with major satellite players for high capacity satellite networks. His department managed an international team in the frame of one of the major development contract ever assigned by the European Space Agency.
