Francesco Scarel, born in Gorizia (Italy) and resident in Trieste (Italy) is an independent researcher, science communicator and artscience curator. In his work, he facilitates interdisciplinary approaches in with the aim of communicating science and technology through artistic and creative languages.Interdisciplinary plays a central role in his work and has been a fundamental aspect of his training. He obtained the PhD in Organic Chemistry and Nanotechnology from FRIAS, Freiburg Institute of Advanced Studies, in 2013. During this time, he explored science communication, particularly through creative and artistic mediums, inspired by a workshop with Felice Frankel of Boston MIT.As a science communicator, he completed the "F. Prattico" Master in Science Communication at SISSA - International School of Advanced Studies and currently teaches artscience and multimedia in the same Master program.In 2024 he founded Liminal Research ETS, an NGO’s exploring science communication through artistic and creative languages, committed to conceive, facilitate, and manage scientific dissemination projects aimed at engaging non-expert audiences, with the goal of advancing a society capable of understanding scientific and technological progress, actively engaging in public discourse, and influencing political decisions.He’s currently involved as art director and artscience curator at Festival dell’Acqua in Staranzano (GO): his last curatorial work was RISORGIVA - Endangered Ecosystems, three days of workshops with BEM High School classes in partnership with Regione FVG, Comune di Staranzano, Xcenter from Nova Gorica, PiNA and HEKA from Koper among others.In 2022 he curated the artscience day organized by AREA Science Park, Exploring the intersection of artistic and scientific languages, in collaboration with MEET Digital Culture Center of Milano.Since 2021 he’s organizing the artscience events for the festival Scienza e Virgola held by MCS SISSA, participating with personal installations and artworks.He collaborates with various international scientific research institutes, including SISSA (International School of Advanced Studies, Italy), Area Science Park and Digital Innovation Hub of Friuli Venezia Giulia (Italy), University IUAV (Venice, Italy), Carbon Nano Group (University of Trieste and Ikerbasque in Spain).In the cultural field is also collaborating with other different NGO’s and companies such as Immaginario Scientifico (Trieste, Italy), Kaleidoscienza (Udine, Italy), Dobialab (Staranzano, Italy), Xcenter (Nova Gorica), PiNA (Koper, Slo).
