I relocated in Oxford to work as postdoc in the research group “Cilia, development and disease”. My project is part on an extensive programme dedicated on understanding the normal function of cilia and the effects of defective cilial function on mammalian development.Our research aim to estabilish mouse models of human ciliopathies, with the ultimate goal of identifying and developing therapeutic strategies.Commonly used techniques comprise mouse genetics, cell culture, nucleic acid isolation, Nucleic acid hybridization, real-time PCR, immunofluorescence assays, confocal, fluorescence and scanning electron microscopy.

I worked as PhD student in the research group: “Chromosome structure and function”. The focus of my doctoral dissertation project regarded the study of a family of protein kinases in Arabidopsis thaliana, involved in the pathways of plant development.

As a guest scientist, I have continued the project on which I have based my master's degree. Relevant tasks included purification of recombinant proteins, analysis of protein unfolding through circular dichroism spectroscopy, investigation of cytochrome c stability.The results of the work appeared on a first-author manuscript.

As a Master's Degree candidate my primary goal was to learn about managing my own project and achieving my independence in the lab in order to obtain positive research results. The task included acquiring laboratory skills as well as developing proper scientific strategies. I completed my master's dissertation (tesi di laurea) with a focus on biochemistry, working on project aimed to determine the role of cytochromes in the apoptotic process.
