Applied Scientists & Biosignal Data Analyst
During my time as research assistant at the Padua Neuroscience Center, my assignments require the study of an experiment concerning psychophysiology and the analysis of cognitive abilities and balance management in endurance athletes and in athletes practicing team sports. The objective of the experimental study is to evaluate whether endurance sports lead to a greater propensity, with respect to team sports, to prefer short-term choice options and to take greater risks. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) will be recorded both to replicate results in the literature that show how people with high levels of HRV (resting state) have better performance in executive tasks than people with low HRV and evaluate how this psychophysiological index can predict speed and accuracy in executive tasks. Furthermore, we want to evaluate the different inhibition and task-switching skills in relation to the sport activity performed. Finally, the effects of a cognitive commitment on the dynamic equilibrium of these two categories of athletes will be studied: those of endurance, where in the practice of the discipline it is not required to elaborate more tasks simultaneously and those practicing team sports where this ability to process more tasks simultaneously it is a fundamental part of the discipline itself.Furthermore, during this research period, I am involved in the data analysis of an experiment aimed at exploring whether romantic love modulates both cognitive control (Stroop Task) and decision making processes (Iowa Gambling Task), taking into consideration also the EEG data, focusing in particular on the Event Related Potentials of interest such as Feedback Related Negativity (FRN) and Medial Frontal Negativity (MFN).

During my research period at the IRCCS San Camillo, I am involved in the drafting of a research project concerning the perspective memory under the supervision of Prof. Patrizia Silvia Bisiacchi and Post-doc research fellow Giorgio Arcara in the MEG Lab .The research will require the use of Magnetoencephalography (MEG) and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) in order to investigate the neural correlates of both time-based and event-based perspective memory.My tasks will concern the definition and implementation of the task (created ad-hoc on the Psychopy software), the collection and analysis of the data through the Matlab Brainstorm toolbox that provide a spectral decomposition and time-frequency, evaluation of functional connectivity measures between brain regions and cross-coupling mechanisms.
Visiting Researcher
At the TU Berlin, during my experience as a visiting researcher I am supervised by Professor Benjamin Blankertz and members of BBCI (Berlin Brain Computer Interface) group.My research project is concerned with the design, implementation, accomplishment and analysis of an EEG study on neural correlates of the cognition of unexpected events during a human-computer interaction (HCI) task. The background is that future HCI systems may exploit implicit information of the user that is extracted from the EEG (and/or signals of peripheral physiology, eye tracking, etc). In this context, it is desirable to estimate from the EEG signals which presented information is *not at all* matching the expectation/interest of the user (unexpected events). This goal is the detectability of irrelevant and unexpected stimuli in single-trial Event-Related Potentials (ERPs). Differently from studies in the literature, e.g., on error-related potentials, we will investigate a much richer variety of stimuli (semantic complexity) and the task will be performed within a free viewing condition. Thereby, we bridge from restrictively controlled fundamental studies towards the rich scenarios of HCI applications. The increased complexity establishes a challenge on artifact removal (e.g., induced by increased amount of eye movements) and on EEG signal detection due to the variability in latency and morphology.
