About Francesco Cordaro- Phd Physics

Francesco holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Turin, Italy, and is currently based in Geneva, Switzerland, where he serves as Chief Scientist at Mutual Value Labs.He has been instrumental in the development of the Economics of Mutuality since its inception within Mars' internal think-tank, Catalyst. For the past 14 years, Francesco has been the architect of the metrics model that assesses non-financial forms of capital—Natural, Human, and Social Capital—central to the Economics of Mutuality. Before the creation of the Economics of Mutuality Alliance, he led the data analytics lab at Mars Catalyst, starting in 2000, working in both Belgium and the U.S.Over two decades, Francesco has led a variety of research projects, including weather forecasting for cocoa crop modeling in West Africa, developing key metrics to evaluate the impact of TV advertising on sales and consumer behavior, modeling neurophysiological responses to advertising, and applying real options to assess risk and opportunity in R&D and product launches. As Chief Scientist at Mutual Value Labs, Francesco now leads R&D initiatives focused on developing AI-driven tools to enhance the digitalization of MVL’s capabilities.

Economics of Mutuality is a new economic model that proposes the integration of other forms of non-financial capitals in defining Companies' business performance that traditionally have been neglected by mainstream economics. Such forms of capitals include Natural Capital, Human Capital and Social Capital. Over the last 10 years, I have lead the research efforts that brought the construction of a system of metrics to assess these forms of capitals across a wide variety of contexts, such as Route-to-Market programs in Africa and South-East Asia, small-holder cocoa and coffee farming communities in Africa, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.Within this collaboration, I am leading two work-streams:• Measuring Mutual Profit: a key objective of this work stream is to start addressing the question of what would be the ‘fair’ level of profit – through a better understanding of how the different forms of non-financial capitals work together throughout the value chain within the Company’s ecosystem and are reflected in firm-level accounting. • Methods of Evaluation: in this work-stream we use Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) to test the core hypothesis of Economics of Mutuality: that more mutual practices produce better business results. The RCT is built on a Route-To-Market business program that Catalyst has developed with the Wrigley business unit in Kenya (MAUA program, see our working paper below).See the links below for an overview of the program and my intervention at the forum on the Mutuality metrics.https://eom.org/

  • Mars
Senior Researcher- Theoretical Physics And Data Modelling
    Mars Sep 2000 - Sep 2009
    Brussels Area, Belgium
Data Analytics- Developed and applied data mining and machine learning techniques (i.e. Marketing effectiveness, Neuro-marketing, Commodity markets forecasting). Marketing & TV advertising - method to measure the TV advertisement effectiveness on sales based on single-source panel data. The methodology, developed and piloted between 2000 and 2003 is currently the standard tool deployed through Mars globally to help marketing assessing the effectiveness of Mars TV campaigns.- simulation algorithm to replace single-source panel data for markets where these data was not available. This approach helped deploying the TV advertisement effectiveness measures in absence of single-source panel data.Neuro-marketing- co-creation of a series of experimental settings to collect neurophysiological data during viewing advertisement. The collected data included Electroencephalography (EEG) in collaboration with the University of Central Florida, Orlando and, in collaboration with the company Affectiva, data of Facial Recognition, Heartbeat rate, Eye-tracking, Electrodermal activity. - Identification of existing pattern relating viewers’ physiological responses to the effectiveness of the advertisement on sales. - Collaboration as scientific advisor for the internal Neuroscience research platform.Commodity development services- development of Data-mining and Machine learning techniques applied to weather and cocoa yield forecasting for West Africa. The model developed used weather and yield longitudinal data to produce rules of associations between weather indicators, such as temperature, sea-level pressure and rainfall, and cocoa trees indicators, such as cocoa pod count and tree canopy.

Post-Doctoral Position- Modern Quantum Field Theory
Université Catholique De Louvain Sep 1999 - Sep 2000
    Ottignies-Louvain-La-Neuve, Walloon Region, Belgium
High Energy Physics and Relativistic Field Theory group Institute for Theoretical Physics at the KU LeuvenHead: Toine Van Proeyen (Antoine) This research group works in the context of modern quantum field theory especially on subjects in particle physics and cosmology. Most part of the research is related to quantum gravity, supersymmetry and string theory.During my post-doc research, we reformulated maximal D=5 supergravity in the consistent approach uniquely based on Free Differential Algebras and the solution of their Bianchi identities (= rheonomic method). This enabled us to explicitly construct the non-compact gaugings corresponding to the non--semisimple algebras CSO(p,q,r), irrespectively from the existence of a lagrangian. These theories, whose existence is proved and their supersymmetry algebra constructed hereby, have potentially interesting properties in relation with domain wall solutions and the trapping of gravity.
