A literacy advocate at heart, Frances L. Gonzalez-Garcia, Ph.D., has served in the education sector for the past two decades through the capacity of multiple roles including that of a classroom teacher, Master Reading Teacher, district job-embedded trainer (literacy, math, and science), reading specialist, university adjunct instructor/lecturer, university reading clinic supervising assistant, district-level ELA coordinator, district-level dyslexia coordinator, and currently as an independent literacy consultant providing professional development in support of literacy for districts, affiliations, and state education agencies nationwide.As an active presenter for local, state, and national conferences, she shares her experiences and background knowledge in the areas of multiple metacognitive approaches, text sets and multimodal texts, technology, reading/writing motivation, teacher education, literacy coaches/specialists, educational leadership, research-based instructional approaches, dyslexia/dysgraphia, and literacy in multilingual/multicultural contexts.Her extensive experience in education includes working with learners of all diverse backgrounds in addition to gifted and talented, multilingual, and dyslexic students in K-12 Title/nonTitle settings. In higher education, she has taught undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses for public and private universities.Dr. Gonzalez-Garcia is the national recipient of the International Literacy Association Legends in Literacy Award and the state recipient of the H.E.B. Excellence in Education Award in elementary leadership.
