About Francesko Michali
I am a highly motivated and enthusiastic student and am currently pursuing my master's in biomedical sciences at Masstricht University. Molecular biology and human physiology are things that fascinate me. In particular, I like learning about how the human body functions and utilizing that knowledge to improve the quality of life of people in need. Currently, my main areas of interest include immunology, pharmacology and oncology. During my bachelor's I was able to gain not only a solid foundation of factual knowledge but also expand and refine my personal professional set of skills. During this time I participated in various projects, an internship and the MaRBLe+ Excellence Programme, all of which helped me learn the importance of effective collaboration, communication and adaptability, among others. Alongside my studies, I ensure the safety of fellow students and teachers in my job as an ERO and work as sales advisor for H&M. In my free time, I enjoy pushing myself with compound exercises in the gym and capturing moments through photography during my trips.

Thesis title: "Novel platelet agonists as triggers in the thrombin generation assay: Towards standardization of the assay "During my bachelor internship, I contributed to the development of a novel Thrombin Generation Assay (TGA) to be used for the reliable and representative measurement of thrombin formation in individuals with bleeding or prothrombotic tendencies. To complete this goal I worked in the UM Biochemistry department and utilized platelet rich plasma from healthy individuals, to which I triggered coagulation with specific platelet agonists such as collagen related peptide and thrombin receptor peptide 6, under controlled conditions. The project's self directed nature allowed me to practice my time management skills and think carefully about the results of each experiment.
