Amerant Bank, N.A., is the largest community bank headquartered in Florida and the main subsidiary of Amerant Bancorp Inc. (NASDAQ: AMTB), with a presence across South Florida and in Tampa, FL, and Houston, TX. Amerant has 25 branches and over $8B in assets.I was promoted to launch and direct the full scope of bank operations in the company's new Texas market, managing the region P&L via leadership in retail banking and branch operations, private banking, commercial banking and lending, and other service lines. In this capacity, I have headed business strategy, underwriting, marketing, training, governance, regulatory compliance (OFAC, KYC, BSA), community-based partnerships, and the recruitment, engagement, and development of an organization of 70 managers and staff. Key achievements:►Collaborating with our C-level leadership to define vision and goals, and to successfully launch the Texas operation. I established the initial foothold via the LPO, leveraging organic growth to accelerate the business trajectory.►Navigating the acquisition of a charter-licensed bank to broaden service, deploy branches, and drive high-quality operations.►Deploying a compliance framework that reduced regulatory, financial, and reputational risk.►Guiding the bank through multiple branding changes and expansions, partnering internally on ground-up builds, renovations, and the integration of new collateral and processes.►Orchestrating a portfolio of strategic business and process improvement initiatives that elevated service delivery and marketing impact.►Accelerating asset and loan portfolio growth via community-based business development.►Elevating the bank profile via corporate citizenship, including with the Greater Houston Partnership, the Mexican Institute, the Houston Symphony, Avenue CDC, and the Family to Family Network.►Maintaining full operability during the COVID-19 pandemic.►Building a high-performing organization with a deep bench of leadership.

During this period, I held a dual role in which I established the company’s first dedicated banking operation in Mexico, the first Latin America target expansion market outside our Venezuela headquarters. Key achievements:►Founding commercial lending offices serving Mexico City and Monterrey, with additional remote support to additional cities.►Creating operational playbooks enabling rapid loan portfolio growth by establishing a critical local presence, penetrating international business communities and reducing risk through diversification.

This was a time-limited assignment in which I was tasked with managing and optimizing service delivery on US-denominated assets on behalf of our South American customers in the United States. Key achievement:►Performing a concurrent strategic market analysis on a potential Mexico market entry.

In 1997, I was hand-selected by our corporate leadership to orchestrate an operational turnaround of the New York City branch. Key achievements:►Defining the strategic direction and leading day-to-day operations, business planning, customer service, and regulatory compliance.►Effectively managing team performance and instituting processes and controls. As a result, we ensured high customer service standards and strict compliance with federal/state regulations and bank policies and procedures.

I provided comprehensive and strategic assistance to multinational companies operating in Venezuela, guiding them through the complexities of the local business environment, ensuring adherence to regulations, and facilitating their expansion and success in a challenging market.
