I have been working at Professor Luca Dal Negro’s optics lab since September of 2023. My current work consists of laser and white light interferometry on a variety of setups and samples. This job has required me to learn coding in MATLAB and LabView, also to learn about topics in optics and electromagnetism such as the Greene’s function, 4-F systems, optical circuits and electric motors.

I interned over the summer at Fermilab under the mentorship of Dr. Bruno Coimbra. During my time at the CMS experiment. I learned a lot on a variety of topics ranging from coding with things like UNIX, pandas, Elasticsearch, git to learning more about high energy physics and all the important work that goes behind the research.The job consisted of at first a few weeks of training followed by your mentor handing you tasks to complete. As a result, I had to work in a variety of new environments ranging from job tracking in HTCondor to machine learning and more physics-based tasks. My biggest contribution was the creation of a neural network which by using Elasticsearch and job data from HTCondor would give an estimate on how long your program would take to run in the CERN cloud.

I worked as a Learning Assistant for the electricity and magnetism course over the Spring semester. The job consisted of supporting the students in learning the material by holding office hours, discussion sections and review sections before the exams. This experience has proven extremely valuable in helping me strengthen my understanding of the material, and helping develop leadership skills.
