I am a Pre-med student, majoring in Biology at the University of North Texas. I aspire to attend medical school once I complete my undergrad studies at UNT. I want to be an Orthopedic Surgeon who provides care for anyone who steps foot into my facility, regardless of background or financial status. I will make it my top priority to provide professional and comforting care for my patients. With visits to the hospital, medical bills can become quite expensive for the average citizen. That is why I will not only provide medical assistance but financial help to the public. Being a first-generation college student and growing up in a middle-class neighborhood, I have experienced the diversity and the struggles low income families experience with healthcare. Despite financial hardships, my parents worked relentlessly to provide all necessities for my sisters and I. As I grew older, I came to fully understand and appreciate what others have done for me. This appreciation has led to me volunteer continuously across my region. I love giving back to my community through volunteer work so much that it has become one of my favorite hobbies. Currently I am a member of the Heart for Homeless organization in Denton, Tx. Every other week we visit different locations such as the Salvation Army to take the blood pressure of any willing individual.As I am reaching my final undergrad year, I seek volunteer and shadowing hours in the healthcare field. Service hours in a medical environment provides unforgettable experiences that improves my interaction and understanding of patients. The better I understand the patient, the better prepared I am to serve their needs and wishes. With my commitment in volunteering, I still manage to balance my school load and social life. Obtaining an overall 3.9 GPA while taking rigorous science courses has been a challenge, but it continues to motivate me to excel in everything I do.
