In addition to my previous responsibilities, I formally became the lead for all of Belonging Space’s commercial conversations. This meant negotiating price levels and deals with clients, associates and partner organisations.

I took on a larger role in client meetings, and on client projects. Both in an account management role and running analysis of the cultural datapoints collected, translating this to actionable plans for meaningful change. Our clients included Network Rail, UK Youth, Restless Development, and Berendsen. I set our annual marketing and new business strategy, creating a 12 month marketing plan, made up of thought leadership events, email marketing and physical mailings. I led an internal project to create our new website with an external agency. I planned and produced The Belonging Summit 2017, the UK’s first summit for belonging, culture and business success. We had one hundred delegates sign up, resulting in ten new client meetings, five becoming proposals. I wrote for our blogsite, Belonging Works, and took on an editorial role for our other writers. As we began to work more with our associates, I formalised our internal policies. I was responsible for managing our intern programme. We had five interns work with us, four through our partnership with two American Universities. I was involved in the creation of our new products, such as our Belonging Conferences, The Belonging Litmus Test, The Belonging Framework, and our Culture Bootcamp. I also maintained our client relationship management software.

I was Belonging Space’s first employee. In my first year, I developed my research abilities, both digesting research to present to our team, and collating the important themes to inform our clients, and our work. I started to develop a more targeted approach to marketing for Belonging Space. During this time I was responsible for the smooth running of all Belonging Space thought leadership events.

Alongside my work for Belonging Space & FB&A, I spent one day a week supporting new business at a new film and animation agency. I followed up marketing mailings, found attendees for thought leadership events, and made calls to prospective clients.

This role gave me a good foundation in new business development and strategic marketing. It taught me the importance of keeping a positive outlook within the team to maintain your levels of productivity
