I am a Partner in the Environmental Law practice group at ArentFox Schiff. I assist clients in resolving challenges arising out of environmental compliance issues related to state and federal statutes and regulations, including permitting, enforcement, audits and project development matters. I draw on my background as a former federal and state environmental enforcement attorney, and former USEPA Regional Administrator as a means of assisting clients successfully navigate these challenges. Since leaving government, I have worked for over 15 years assisting clients in defending and resolving government enforcement actions, citizens's suits, permit negotiations and appeals, internal compliance audits and investigations, responding to government information requests and subpoenas, and voluntary disclosures. My practice includes representation of all sizes of public and private companies, as well as units of government. Prior to entering private practice, I served as Regional Administrator, U.S. EPA, Region 5, leading a staff of over 1300 employees, and working with state environmental agencies in overseeing implementation of environmental laws and policy in the Great Lakes Region. I previously served as an environmental enforcement attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C., and with the Illinois Attorney General's Office. I served for 13 years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserve Field Artillery, served as a Battery Commander, and attained the rank of Captain.
