A Global Leader in Sustainable DevelopmentFrancis Maberi is an accomplished young leader in sustainable development, with a proven track record of success in advancing sustainable practices and empowering young people. Holding a degree from the Islamic University in Uganda, he has established himself as a recognized figure in the field, garnering recognition from various organizations for his exceptional leadership and dedication.Founder of Step Up Youth Initiative, a non-profit organization that tracks development commitments and empowers young people to become changemakers in their communities, Francis is also a founding member of the African Youth SDGs Summit and is a member of the African Policy Circle (APC). Speaking at summits in Gnana, Ethiopia, Namibia, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and ZambiaPassionate about youth empowerment, gender equality, and sustainable development, Francis has played a key role in several initiatives, including Voice Africa's Future (VAF), which mobilized youth in 10 African countries to ensure their voices were heard in post-2015 discussions and negotiations on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also led the Citizens Report initiative, collecting and distributing advocacy data on youth and women's participation in delivering the SDGs from 2015 to 2020.Francis's work has been recognized by various organizations, including the African Youth SDGs Summit, which honored him as the Africa SDGs Youth Ambassador of the Year in 2022, and the Global Conscience World, which appointed him as a goodwill Lead Ambassador in 2019.In 2020, Francis established the Obuntu SDGs Knowledge Hub, demonstrating his resilience and adaptability in pursuing sustainable development goals even during the COVID-19 pandemic. The platform aimed to track development commitments even during lockdowns, providing valuable insights and data to inform decision-making and support progress towards the SDGs.Currently, Francis is spearheading a new project, the Source of the Nile Women in Agribusiness Investment Summit and Expo, in collaboration with the Obuntu SDGs Knowledge Hub, UN Women, and the Government of Uganda. This initiative aims to empower and promote African women in the Agribusiness sector, aligning with the global goals of reducing inequality, advancing gender equality, ending poverty, and contributing significantly to sustainable development.
