Francis Mern Hau Tan was posted to Sembawang Air Base in early 2000 as a senior technician working on the since-decommissioned UH1H.In 2001, he was handpicked and selected for the new platform, Attack Helicopter AH64D.Francis was sent to Fort Eustis, Virginia, for the US Army specialist program in April 2001 and graduated with flying colours.He was also the AH64D overseas deployment set-up team in Tucson, Arizona, which involved setting up and defining servicing and maintenance standards of AH64D for RSAF.Worked with 1-285th National Guards and was awarded USArmy Commendation Medal in 2003.Redeployed back to Singapore in 2005 and was involved in the decommissioning of UH1H. At the same duration, he set up the AH64D Maintenance section at Sembawang Airbase.Was part of the Quality Assurance check team for new asset purchases in Boeing Mesa.Redeployed back to Tucson, Arizona, for an additional two years from 2008 to 2010 and assisted in the OSHA certification.Mindef awarded Francis full degree sponsorship for the UniSIM degree in 2010.
