Continuing the fight against hackers and scammers

The Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) was formed to deliver the specialist support and distinctive voice recruiters the tools they need to create success. It gives candidates and employers a trusted badge of quality whilst providing member firms with an innovative range of services designed for them by recruitment experts. As part of the toolkit, ASPCo as formed a collection of forums to provide specialist support. Holding over 80 events and meetings every year, the forums offer members a wide range of opportunities to meet with recruitment experts, learn best practice and network with peers. APSCo Forums are peer group meetings that bring together professionals and experts with similar responsibilities or interests. In January 2018, I was appointed co-chair of the Technology Leadership Forum. This is for IT directors and managers and designed to help them keep up-to-date with trends and developments in this fast moving and complex sector.

Supported by Barclays and Welwyn Hatfield Council, the Business Builders team delivers training and workshops to startup business and established business to help them grow in 2019. Primarily, my role is to educate startups and established businesses on Information Technology issues such as data management, cloud solutions, hardware maintenance and cyber security. My aim is to help businesses save time and money through effectively managed IT solutions.

I have been involved with BNI since 2000 and I am an active and committed business networker.I lead the BNI Premier Chapter, which meets in Rickmansworth each Thursday morning. The Premier Chapter recently became the No 1 Chapter in the country out of 654 BNI Chapters. As a major shareholder in the newly-formed FWCS Group Ltd I focused on securing new business for the company. I am a committed and experienced business networker, and someone with a large professional network. I was able to generate £350,000 of new business for FWCS Group during my time with the company - despite the recession! IT support services contracts contributed £250,000 of that business. I founded FWCS in 1993. We specialised in offering customised IT support services to estate agencies, to the education sector and to the recruitment industry. I built this company from scratch to a £1.2 million business with £750,000 in support contracts. It was here I developed my ability to help businesses choose the right sort of IT support and then to tailor our solutions to help clients’ to fulfil their requirements.

As a recent immigrant from South Africa I started work at ME Landscapes Ltd as a book-keeper.Fate intervened and I was soon computerising the company’s work processes, helping the owner to do things with the office and book-keeping systems that no one had been able to help him to do previously. I computerised all the record keeping within the business including computerising stock control and other business processes. As a result the business became more efficient and the owner needed fewer staff. It was in this job that I set up my first network. I extended my programming skills. I finally left to set up my own business – an IT support services company.

I learned the basics of electrical engineering in this role. I also studied to become an electrical engineer, earning my diploma from Durban Institute of Technology in Durban, South Africa.
