Francois has been an independent non executive director at Afrimat Ltd since 2017 and the Chairman since 2022. Afrimat Ltd is a mid-tier Mining and Materials company listed on te Johannesburg Stock Exchange with a market cap of R10bn. He has been in the mining industry for the past 35 years, mainly focusing on Strategy, Growth Projects, Commercial Negotiations and Business Development. He was a member of the inaugural Executive Committee when Kumba Iron Ore Ltd, a South African based subsidiary of the Anglo American plc group, was listed on the JSE in November 2006 and served on the Executive Committee and the Board of Sishen Iron Ore Company (Pty) Ltd, a Kumba Iron Ore subsidiary with an annual (2013) turnover of US$5.5bn untill April 2015. He was responsible for various functions in the company, most notably for defining and executing the company’s growth projects portfolio. Prior to this Francois served in various operations and projects positions in the Iron Ore, Heavy Minerals and Coal sectors.
