About Francois Badenhorst

I am a leader with 30+ years’ experience in managing teams in a wide range of industries and a convincing track record of successful delivery. My expertise lies in rallying people to solve tough problems and follow my lead gladly. I’m usually selected to lead strategically important undertakings in complex, dynamic environments with multi-million-dollar cost and revenue budgets.I am currently at the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) where I provide IT advice to its Executive team, directed the development of an IT architecture and now focusing on its implementation. Prior to the EPA I managed radio and digital network upgrade projects at Vital Ltd, some significant communication and information system projects for the NZDF in a scaled agile environment, and the successful implementation of Snapper's electronic ticketing & customer care solution for public bus services in the Greater Wellington region. I came to Snapper from the Social Investment Agency (SIA) as programme manager for its cloud data exchange capability for the NZ social sector which went live Dec 2016, meeting the expectations of our sponsor, ex-Prime Minister Bill English. Preceding Snapper, I was at NZ Post, responsible for the IT components of its “Network of the Future” programme to build an integrated mail & parcel transport network.Leading into Post I managed a portfolio of telecom and IT projects and a team of project managers at Spark Digital, delivering to ANZ Bank. Prior to Post at Kiwibank I led enterprise information and customer delivery projects and helped shape strategy and delivery capability as a member of the Enterprise Information leadership team. I was considered a driver of an information revolution at the bank, managing its data driven sales programme which delivered a business analytics hub and several million dollars in assets and revenue. I also led high profile projects/programmes at Alcatel-Lucent, NZ Post and Vodafone amongst others and I’ve held a diverse set of roles in my career, namely military officer, accountant, lecturer, programmer, business analyst, management consultant, manager, executive and entrepreneur. I do my best work with autonomy to lead teams and when soft leadership skills and business management competencies are needed in addition to sound technical project/programme management.I am a certified PMP, SAFe® Agilist, Prosci Change Management Practitioner and hold Bachelor of Commerce and MBA degrees.
