Between June 2013 and January 2018, I restructured an industrial group in insolvency with a turnover of EUR 260 million and activities in Uruguay, Argentina, China, Germany, Romania and Congo, acting as CEO, CFO and COO. The group was in default, following a fraud involving EUR 100 million of assets transferred to scammers, leaving the group over-indebted and without liquidity. The restructuring was achieved through a cost-cutting exercise, stopping projects with no potential and the sale of companies, including one sold to a French CAC 40 company. A significant part of the time was spent dealing with litigations and frauds, including an insolvent oil exploration project in Congo. We also dealt with asset recovery involving Switzerland, BVI, France and Germany in excess of USD 50+ million.Between June 2013 and November 2013, I also provided consultancy services to the CEO of BNP Securities offshore to improve the fund administration business.

One of these research papers "Does Correlation Between Stock Returns Really Increase During Turbulent Periods?" was published in the Academic Journal "Economics Notes".A second working paper was on Banks' run and herd behaviour, explaining why bank should fail because of the asymmetry of information between the banks' managers ande the banks' depositors, the diffusion of the information on the quality of the assets backing up the bank being deduced from the withdrawals from the bank (possible bank’s run) arising as a result of a liquidity shock or an underlying issue with the bank financial soundness.This simple model developed in 1999 predicted well what has happened in 2008 onwards, but was badly received by regulators and central banks at the time which said “ Banks have not failed for the past 70 years and it is not going to happen anytime soon. Interesting academic model, but we do not see the application in the practical world”.While working at the Bank of France, I started a Phd thesis at Paris Sorbonne university on the subject of banking crises, but banking crises appeared unlikely in 2000 and I was encouraged to change subject.
