Franco Ruzzenenti graduated in Environmental Economics in 2001 and in 2007 he completed his PhD in Environmental Chemistry in Siena, Italy, where he spent most of his academic career studying the relationship between energy growth, complexity and efficiency. Between 2012 and 2015 he took part to an international European project on financialization, economy, society and environment (FESSUD). He holds a position as an assistant professor in the area of Energy and Industry Network Dynamics at the Energy and Sustainability Research Institute of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. His scientific interests spam from: Energetics and Energy Economics, Industrial Ecology, Network Theory, Finance; with more than twenty international publications (Scopus), in journals like: Scientific Reports, PlosOne, Applied Energy, Energy, Energy Conservation and Management, Research in International Business and Finance. He recently contributed, with four chapters, to the book on Complex Systems and Social Practices in Energy Transitions: Framing Energy Sustainability in the Time of Renewables, Springer.
