I design and execute in-life pharmacokinetic (PK) studies intended to elucidate the mechanisms of disposition of drug candidate molecules originating from the neuropharmacology projects within the VCNDD. In addition to working with the DMPK team, I also contribute to the organizational drug discovery project teams, made up of medicinal chemists and pharmacologists. The weekly PK studies require extensive compentency in dose formulation, multiple study designs and routes of administration, including oral, intravenous, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal dosing. I have demonstrated expertise in alternative blood sampling techniques, including multiple catheterizations, tail vein and cardiac puncture. In addition to in vivo experimentation, I routinely contribute to ex vivo plasma and tissue manipulations (rodent, dog, monkey and human) to enable high throughput bioanalysis and in vitro PK experiments to address plasma stability, protein binding, P450 inhibition and activation, and blood cell distribution. My responsibilities also encompass bioanalysis using LC/MS/MS, animal husbandry, supply procurement and records maintainence.
