Frank Condon is a director and playwright, best known for his direction of 5 productions of The Chicago Conspiracy Trial in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Sacramento.The original production garnered him LA Drama Critic’s Circle awards for directing & playwriting. He has received numerous other honors including a National Endowment for the Arts Director’s Fellowship.He has directed in regional theatres throughout the country, opening South Coast Repertory’s Second Space, and was one of the artistic directors at the Odyssey Theater in Los Angeles for a decade, a staff director at the Mark Taper Forum, and director of The Taper’s touring Improvisational Theatre Project.He was invited by Luis Valdez to direct the inaugural production of El Teatro Campesino’s first and only theatre while he filmed Zoot Suit, and worked with Garry (Doonesbury) Trudeau directing his Rap Master Ronnie throughout the West Coast and Toronto. And he has directed several other highly regarded original plays, some of which have had a further life in the theatre.Frank was founding Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed River Stage in Sacramento, which he ran for the theatres’ sixteen years, bringing in playwrights and directors from around the country to work on original plays. Mark Medoff was a Playwright in Residence for several seasons. River Stage focused on mostly American plays from Arthur Miller to Sarah Ruhl, Sam Shepard, Paula Vogel and August Wilson.He has worked with the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Dell’Arte School of Comedy, and was guest artist/professor at several colleges and universities including USC, UCLA, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara.He has worked on two feature films. Development Consultant on the recent Oscar nominated “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” and Script Consultant on the HBO Ace Award winning, “Conspiracy: The Trial of the Chicago Eight.”Frank is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and the Dramatists Guild.
