A native of San Francisco, Frank Cooney is an innovative entrepreneur with significant success in a wide range of fields and winner of multiple national Emmys. A pioneer in journalism and electronic and broadcast media, he currently oversees all aspects of The Sports Xchange publishing company, which includes NFLDraftScout.com, NFLDraftScout.substack.com, HallofFootball.com, and HallofFootball.substack.com. Previously, TSX and a team of more than 500 professional journalists covered more than 7,000 events on-site a year. Over more than two decades, TSX worked with more than 2,000 journalists who earned in excess of $25 million during hard times in the industry Cooney is in his seventh decade of professional journalism, dating back to his start with the Hearst Corporation's San Francisco Examiner in 1965. He was an award-winning reporter, editor, and columnist until his departure in 1994 and was the NFL Columnist for the Seattle Times from 1996-98.Cooney is best known as a long-time pro football historian and analyst. He is on the prestigious Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee. His wide-ranging career includes numerous startups, including The Sports Xchange, NFL Draft Scout (1987) and HallofFootball.com (2023). He was also: -- Co-founder of Marin Scope Publishing in 1971, which grew to a chain of six California newspapers. -- On the original launch teams for Electronic Art's Madden Football, the most popular sports video game in history. -- On the launch team of FOX Sports (1994), an industry innovator, where he earned four national Emmys. -- General Manager/Player in Semi-Pro Football and was selected to the American Football Association Hall of Fame, Class of 2007. -- Author and co-author of several books, including "Fire In the Ice Man," the biography of Tom Flores, and Man-to-Man Football with John Madden.Frank and wife Susan own and operate iconic restaurant Tofanelli's Gold Country Bistro in the Historic Sierra Foothills town of Grass Valley, California, where they are involved in community functions.     After analyzing the NFL draft since 1967, created a research service for pro teams, agents and the media in 1987. NFL Draft Scout tracks football players from the time they are recruited until they are drafted or no longer eligible for college football. That amounts to a rotating list of approximately 12,000 players at any one time. In 1997, Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh came aboard and NDS created its first web site. In 2000, little known draft savant Brian Hitterman took charge of managing analysis. In 2009 Rob Rang became Sr. Analyst and was later joined by Dane Brugler. NDS' clients have included 21 NFL teams, numerous agents and provided content for the NFL and NFL.com as well as Yahoo, USA Today and Sports Weekly. For the past decade NDS was available via CBSSports.com. In June of 2017, NDS left CBS and partnered with the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A new digital presence is under construction.
