I'm interested in both language and languages and taught English (ESL) at the University of South Alabama for 19 years. I was the coordinator of the English Language Center (English as a Second Language Program) at the University of South Alabama for 13 years. I also taught ESL/EFL in Japan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, as well as at the University of Southern Mississippi and Loyola University of New Orleans. I taught German as a teaching fellow at Tulane and Yale universities. For five years I worked as a reporter and staff writer at the weekly Azalea City News and Review in Mobile, Alabama, specializing in articles and interviews on historic preservation, city planning, city government, history of Mobile, and social satire. In 1997 I published the comic novel "Isle of Joy" with Black Belt Press, which focused humorously on subtropical mores, life and times of Mobile (an earlier published version of the book was entitled "Postmodern Times"). I have also published numerous reviews and other articles for the Mobile Press-Register.
