  • Fjf Licensing Solutions
    Licensing Consultant
Fjf Licensing Solutions May 2011 - Present
I am self employed, having set up my own company as a licensing consultant. I carry out licensing work in the field of alcohol and entertainment licensing, completing licensing applications on behalf of persons who wish to set up businesses selling alcohol and providing regulated entertainment, as prescribed under the Licensing Act 2003.I have clients based all over the country, having successfully applied for licences for people to sell alcohol and carry out entertainment in Bedford (nightclubs, shops and restaurants), Bath (Guest house), Malvern and Hereford (camp sites), Louth (internet sales), Richmond upon Thames (restaurant), Chandlers Ford (Masonic Centre), Bournemouth (restaurants), Poole (new public houses / restaurants), Oldham (nightclub), West Lulworth (hotel) and many many more. I have represented clients at licensing sub-committee hearings in various parts of the country, and also have experience in representing clients for sex entertainment licences. Over the past couple of years, I have been involved in a few Licensing appeals through the magistrates court. Much is learned by going through this procedure / process, I also deliver training courses in various aspects of the Licensing Act 2003. I deliver training on behalf of CPL Training, the largest training provider for personal licence courses in the country. The delegates on these courses are amazing people, who are either looking to further their own career in the field of licensing, or are looking for their own personal licence to start their own business. Whatever their reasons for attending, they enjoy a day of 'fun-filled' learning and get a lot of information that opens their eyes to the world of licensing.
  • Bedford Borough Council
    Alcohol Partnerships Officer
Bedford Borough Council Sep 2008 - Aug 2011
I worked with partnership agencies in ensuring those selling alcohol across the Borough of Bedford did so in a responsible and legal way. Partnership agencies included the Police, Council, Schools, Trading Standards to name but a few.I formed the first Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) in Bedford, working with the licensed trade, the authorities and schools in the north rural area of Bedford. This work largely centred on preventing underage sales of alcohol and delivering various 'alcohol messages' through the local schools in that area.I also delivered Bedford's first Best Bar None scheme, an awards based initiative aimed at helping licensed premises become a safer place for all.
  • Bedfordshire Police
    Police Officer
    Bedfordshire Police Sep 1976 - May 2008
I completed 30 years (and 3 days) as a police officer, carrying out various functions with various responsibilities. The last 6 years of my police service were spent as a Licensing Sergeant working across Bedfordshire (Bedford and Luton).I was the police lead on the night time economy initiative in Bedford called 'Bedsafe' and in Luton - LutonSafe.Being a licensing officer meant I came into contact with people from all walks of society, and I spent much time assisting those people to become compliant with the laws affecting alcohol.
