I spent 24 years trading steel for export, first as an employee and then as a business founder. Unusual for a major commodity steel doesn't have a futures market. Its trade involves the physical possession and delivery of the product. I built a sourcing and distribution network that lasted for 15 years.For my efforts I am well traveled, comfortable in myriad cultural settings, and familiar with all aspects of building a successful enterprise.I am also an excellent writer. I have a deep knowledge of and write often on the economy and markets.As the rise of China turned the global supply chain on its head around the turn of the century I began trading equities along with steel. As equities became more profitable than steel I phased out that and have now spent 15 years immersed in the public markets.Building a business followed by a lengthy study of public companies has been an informal MBA. I now understand the dynamics of the industry from which I came in a way I never did during my career.After years of offering informal advice to local business owners, I was asked by the Village Mayor and Board to sit on our State chartered economic development board. I am currently its Chairman. I was also approached to run for local office and because of my organizational skills asked to chair a recent political campaign.While I have long enjoyed the simplicity of my current business model, sans employees and suppliers, I have tired of the isolation and of not being part of something larger that can be scaled. I have done well for myself and clients in the public markets and had thoughts of starting a hedge fund, but the model is obsolete and over time is unlikely to create tangible value for the client.Rather, I would like the opportunity to apply my public speaking and organizational skills along with my business acumen to collaborate on a venture in need of informed management and perhaps restructuring. As my resume attests, I have extensive experience worldwide.
