I am currently working as a senior lecturer (universitair docent) with the Center for Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen. I finished my PhD project (thesis approved in May 2014), which started in september 2008, and is concerned with the development of form and style of the reportage in France, England and the Netherlands between 1880 and 2005. My PhD is part of an encompassing research project 'reporting at the boundaries of the public sphere' under supervision of Prof. Dr. Marcel Broersma. I hold a BA in Dutch contemporary literature and a Research Master in literary and cultural studies, both of which I obtained at the University of Groningen. Because of my background in literature research I am interested in the relationship between journalism and literature, which is a central focus point of my dissertation. As a teacher, I am lecturing in the Journalism MA and in the minor Media and Journalistic Culture. I teach several courses ranging from introductory courses into journalism, journalism studies, and journalism history (minor) to a specialisation course in the MA focused on narrative journalism and storytelling. In addition I also supervise MA theses.
