I am a graduate of the Myron E. Rubnitz M.D. School of Medical Laboratory Science and am currently working as an assistant laboratory information manager/ancillary testing coordinator at Edward Hines VA Hospital. Science has always been an interest of mine. I would enjoy the experiments we would perform in my middle school science classes. This interest has grown into a larger passion in high school and has helped me realize that I want to study science at the university level.However, science itself is not enough in medicine. Human interaction and compassion mixed with scientific knowledge provide the best care for patients. Being the oldest of five, I would take care of my younger siblings when my mother had to work. I always loved spending time with them. When they were sick, I would help them heal by taking care of them, giving them food and medicine. This is where I became interested in the field of healthcare, just by performing my regular chores at home.Previously, I worked with Carmike Cinemas as a shift coordinator to pay my college loans. I have also spent about a year volunteering at Rush Oak Park Hospital to obtain clinical experience in a hospital setting, and after completing a training program, I was hired at Rush Oak Park Hospital as a phlebotomist. With my phlebotomy experience and knowledge in biology, I was accepted into the medical laboratory science program and am now currently working at Edward Hines VA Hospital.
