We built a fully automated robot to navigate unknown environments. The robot was purpose built to compete in the NASA Sample Return Robot Challenge. We competed three years in a row and in that time I had the privilege to work on a number of different systems such as path planning, vision, high level planning, and low level controls. Additionally, as one of the older and more senior team members I filled a leadership role, where I got to mentor and manage a number of students, which due to the members being volunteers was unlike my previous management experience.

In my basement, after work, I developed the software for a RC plane project (the ForceFly). I found this work so rewarding that I got inspired to apply for graduate school.
