Light and electron microscopist providing microscopy services to the rubber community. I routinely classify compounded carbon to type based on primary particle size as well as run SEM/EDS analysis on the compounded parts. The position requires Phillips dispersion testing and failure analysis of polymer components. Documentation of failure origin by way of photomicroscopy and follow-up with microscopy testing are important to resolve the failure.

I run the SEM/EDS (and light microscopy!) to support all applications of arc welding, failure analysis, contamination control and support quality functions. This includes diverse groups such as manufacturing, consumable materials, research and customer assistance.

I was responsible for overseeing the light and electron optic microscopy laboratories and equipment, digital imaging, integrating workflow to provide analytical services to product managers, external customers and support of internal projects. The principle products were carbon black and silica, but customer request and plant support greatly expanded the scope of materials examined and problems solved.

Responsible for identification of contamination, analysis of failed product, resolving customer complaints and re-construction of competitive formulations. Successful completion of these tasks involved light and electron microscopy, IR microspectroscopy and GC-MS while utilizing shared resources available in a multi-team environment.Over the years at Goodyear I worked on tires, belts, hoses, aircraft fuel cells, and chemical products.I also functioned as the laser safety officer for the entire Akron complex and ran yearly training and laser surveys
