Consultant And Head Of Formula One External-Aerodynamics Simulation Technology.Ferrari Sp.A. Gestione Sportiva Jan 2010 - Dec 2014Maranello ItalyResponsible for all aspects of external-aerodynamics simulation methodology with FLUENT.Expert in computationally efficient and experimentally verifiable simulations for open-wheeled racing cars,Developed a systematic technique for extracting long-time-averaged (i.e., LTA) values of unsteady effects from a time-accurate external-aero simulation of a wake-generating body and imposing them on a corresponding steady-flow simulation of the same body. Provided the LTA values of unsteady effects imposed on the body yield a steady-flow solution, the convergence will be robust and the steady-flow solution will correlate well with the LTA of the time-accurate solution. Similar to a perturbation expansion of an analytic solution of the Navier-Stokes equations, the LTA values of unsteady effects from a time-accurate simulation can be imposed on a steady-flow simulation of a closely-related geometry. This permits the sensitivity of the geometry change to the design objective to be tested more accurately than is possible with purely steady-flow simulations. When CPU-time is limited, this technique can reduce the run matrix of time-accurate simulations for bodies that yield strongly unsteadiy wakes, so that they may be optimized more economically.
