This is a key role which brings together news, features and forward planning across two titles: The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday. I am responsible for the news operation - driving exclusives and distinctive content, managing resources, special news supplements, election and budget coverage.I act as the paper's joint deputy editor, and edit the paper regularly. I am charged with delivery of the paper's daily features coverage, budgets, staff management, advising on legal issues and PCC.I am currently guiding the move to digital journalism by supporting our new iPad app, improved website and social media strategy.

Managed a team of 25 reporters across Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness and London in a highly pressurised role, with the aim of delivering news content that would stand up to London rivals and add value in the age of 24 hour news.

Specialist reporter writing on a range of consumer issues for news and features. Proven track record of breaking exclusives. During this time I also led The Scotsman's successful Sightsavers campaign in Asia and Africa.

City correspondent responsible for breaking exclusive content relevant to the Edinburgh and Lothians area. Regularly scooped the Evening News on big stories.

Reporter in the Dundee office and then Edinburgh where I made bureau chief. A varied and demanding role in which clients included all the major UK newspaper titles as well as television broadcasters. Regular shifts during this period at the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and Scotland on Sunday.

The sole reporter on a 16-page weekly broadsheet writing news, features and sport across South Ayrshire. Worked weekends for the Daily Record and Sun covering football in the lower Scottish leagues.
