Chief Of Party, Usaid Water Efficiency And Conservation Activity ( Usaid Wec)Tetra Tech Oct 2022 - PresentAmman, JordanResponsible for the overall technical direction and management of the USAID WEC Activity which is designed to increase water use efficiency and conservation in Jordan by applying commercial incentives to the agriculture, industrial, and municipal sectors and strengthening the Government of Jordan (GOJ) governance over irrigated agriculture. WEC collaborates with GOJ and the private sector to achieve the goal of saving 70 million cubic meters (MCM) of water. Chief Of Party, Usaid Southern Africa Tradehub, (Usaid Tradehub)Dai Oct 2021 - Sep 2022Pretoria, South AfricaI was responsible for the technical direction and closedown phase ( final year ) of the 6 year $55 Million USD program implemented across nine Southern Africa Countries. Successfully managed a team of 50 technical and administrate staff using a market systems approach to increase Southern Africa exports from both the agricultural and non- agricultural sectors to South Africa and the US. The USAID TradeHub worked with market actors to identify and resolve enterprise constraints and to implement sustainable solutions through a variety of demand driven market-based trade and investment facilitation services. Key ResultsFacilitated, in fiscal year 2022, $173 million in agricultural and non-agricultural exports to South Africa and the United States. These results represented 394 percent of the target of $44 million. This number brought the cumulative value of all exports facilitated by the project from the region to South Africa and the United States (under AGOA) to $307 million, against a target of $73 million, representing an over-achievement of 421 percent.Linked more than 200 Southern African textile, apparel, accessory, and specialty food companies from Southern Africa to the United States and international markets via global trading platforms, including Fancy Food (New York), MAGIC (Las Vegas), and Gulf Foods (Dubai). -
Chief Of Party – Usaid Funded Agribusiness Competitiveness Activity Of Tajikistan – AcatWinrock International Sep 2018 - Jan 2021Dushanbe, TajikistanAs Chief of Party, I was responsible for the overall technical direction and management of this multi-year program. ACAT, working in the horticulture and dairy sectors, with a budget of $18.6 million project had three main objectives. The diversification of the agricultural sector to include higher-value commodities and value-added products, strengthened linkages between aggregators, wholesalers, exporters and international, regional and domestic end-markets and leveraging resources to catalyze systemic change. ACAT followed a market-driven, private sector led approach to stimulate economic growth, increase employment, and improve rural livelihoods. ACAT supported Tajik agri-enterprises to diversify their produce and product lines to take advantage of promising domestic, regional and international market opportunities. -
Chief Of Party - Usaid Funded Lebanon Industry Value Chain Development ( Livcd)Dai Apr 2016 - Sep 2018Beirut, LebanonAs Chief of Party, I was responsible for the overall technical direction and financial management of this multiyear program. My successful management of the project resulted in a $4.5 million costed extension to the original budget of $41 million. Key responsibilities included managing a team of 60 staff, local and international subcontractors, on time submission of high-quality key project reports and deliverables and ensuring integrity of project MEL data. I was the primary point of contact for USAID and project partners and counterparts regarding all aspects of project implementation. LIVCD consistently delivered quality outreach material to USAID Lebanon and USAID Middle East Bureau. LIVCD was USAID Lebanon’s flagship economic growth project with an overall budget of $46 million USD working primarily in agricultural value chains focusing on increased productivity, profitability and competitiveness. LIVCD also had a successful tourism component which produced and supported implementation of the Lebanon national tourism strategy. -
Chief Of PartyLand O'Lakes International Development Jan 2012 - Jun 2015Kigali, RwandaAs Chief of Party, I was responsible for the overall financial management and technical direction of this multiyear program. This including managing a team of 30 full time project staff and local and international subcontractors. The project implemented a comprehensive grants component which stimulated growth and investment of private sector dairy partners across Rwanda. I was the key point of contact for USAID and Government of Rwanda on all aspects of project implementation. In close collaboration with Rwanda’s Ministry of Agriculture RDCP II designed and subsequently implemented both the national dairy strategy and a high visibility national milk consumption campaign. These important initiates which involved close collaboration between Rwanda’s public and private sectors contributed to the project becoming a model Feed the Future project for USAID Rwanda. RDCP II budget was $15 million and consistently achieved targets to expand regional and domestic trade opportunities for Rwanda’s dairy sector. -
Project ManagerNiras International Consulting 2007 - 2011Lusaka, ZambiaOn PROFIT project, I led the dairy and livestock components, a highly regarded multi- year private sector development project under USAID Zambia’s economic growth portfolio. I was responsible for supporting the dairy and beef value chains to engage and adopt commercial relationships between the various industry players along the value chains, from livestock farmers to dairy and beef processors providing value addition. Simultaneously my component supported increased demand for critically important services and inputs from the private sector which further spurred growth while also professionalizing Zambia’s traditional beef and dairy sectors. Under my guidance the project introduced a successful school milk feeding program under a public private partnership (PPP) between Zambia’s Ministry of Agriculture, WFP, and Zambia’s leading private milk processor. This initiative increased the awareness of the importance of improved nutritional intake for rural primary school age children. -
Technical AdvisrChemonics International 2000 - 2006Blantyre Malawi & Kampala UgandaAs deputy chief of party I was responsible for activities required to achieve strengthened agri-industry associations combined with increased export trade promotion. SALES, a trade capacity building project focused on agricultural commodity exports. The primary goal was increased rural employment and incomes for those working in the tea, coffee, cotton and macadamia sectors. I worked through existing and active business associations, as opposed to individual companies, using a demand driven approach for each sector to provide responsive tailored sector solutions. Malawi produces world class tea, coffee, and macadamia but with limited expertise on how to market these products effectively into sophisticated international markets. SALES project made considerable progress to address this deficiency supporting selected industry associations to refocus their efforts, including rebranding, on how best to add value to their respective commodities and raise their profile on international markets.On USAID Uganda IDEA project my input was critical to the success of IDEA as it stimulated ongoing and close collaboration between private sector players to develop and expand non -traditional exports for selected field crops namely maize, beans and upland rice. It was critical that all the value chain actors were actively motivated to engage with each other. Value chain actors included input suppliers, farmers' groups, individual farmers, finance institutions, traders, and exporters as the overall success of the activity depended upon the effective participation of each one. Coordination of these activities required subtle interaction with these organisations and individuals, supporting them as project clients (large or small) to improve their performance. The IDEA project, then USAID Uganda’s flagship economic growth project greatly enhanced Uganda’s capacity to export non-traditional ag. exports especially into neighbouring region of East and Central Africa.
