Investigated mechanisms of radiation damage in a lithium indium diselenide (LiInSe2) semiconducting/scintillating crystal, coupled with a silicon avalanche photodiode (Si-APD).Constructed models in Vanderbilt University's Monte Carlo Radiative Energy Deposition (MRED) simulation software to predict and understand the energy deposition of alpha particles, gamma rays, and neutrons emitted from radioactive materials and into LiInSe2, and compared models with experimental results.Performed channel-energy calibration tests for a Si-APD using a surface barrier detector.Utilized a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer to measure the optical transmission spectrum of LiInSe2, and evaluated changes in the spectrum after exposure to gamma radiation.Used experimental and modeling techniques to calibrate the layer thicknesses and alpha decay energy of an americium-241 button source.

Used paleomagnetic techniques to analyze Iron-aged geomagnetic field samples from Southern African burnt huts, grain bins, and kraals to get indication of the magnetic directional history of the South Atlantic Anomaly between ~800-1000 AD.Gained geological field experience in Nain, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and in Lawton, Oklahoma, sampling anorthosite and labradorite and studying their paleomagnetic properties.Analyzed data and presented findings at the 2018 American Geographical Union Fall Meeting.
