About Frank Pichel

I am passionate about challenging conventional approaches to land governance and finding innovative and sustainable solutions that benefit marginalized communities and improve land administration systems. My academic background in land administration is grounded in experience working to implement private sector led land governance projects, followed by time as a program manager in the donor community working on all aspects of program design and management. As a co-founder and former chief programs officer of Cadasta Foundation, I helped grow the organization to serve over 100 partners in more than 40 countries, securing land rights for over 21 million hectares of land. As a Partner at PLACE, a social enterprise that leverages a data trust model to collect and share geo-spatial data, I work to develop approaches and methodologies for the capture of critical geospatial data for national mapping agencies in urban environments. A licensed UAV pilot, I have led aerial imagery capture in several African cities and small island states, pioneering new approaches to data collection and processing. Working with the PLACE team and local government we’ve utilized this data to develop demonstrative use cases focusing on disaster and 3d modeling, revenue generation, and machine learning applications for partner governments.
