Profile bio

About Frank Van Der Hulst

After a decade working “in space,” I founded MF Robotics to bring practical robot technologies to earth. At MF Robotics, we envision seamless interaction between humans and robots—a natural way to control and supervise robots that harnesses the benefits of robot autonomy without compromising human authority. Our goal is to let humans focus on what they do best: making decisions, setting goals, and intervening when necessary, while robots take care of what they excel at: speed, accuracy, repetition, and operating in challenging environments. We develop systems that translate human intent into precise robot control and transform robot observations into intuitive feedback. Our Human-Robot Interface (HRI) enables natural, effective interactions, ensuring that humans remain in control at every level of robot autonomy—whether the robot is performing a routine task or requires direct intervention.Imagine interactive control dashboards enhanced with immersive feedback hardware. Our systems allow users to delegate routine tasks to robots while retaining the ability to intervene at any moment, creating an effortless blend of automation and human expertise.www.mf-robotics.com---My journey into telemanipulation began in 2010 when I joined the European Space Agency (ESA) to research intuitive haptic systems. As an engineer in the Human-Robot Interaction lab, I had the privilege of working on incredible projects like developing an arm exoskeleton, designing haptic controllers for the ISS, and running teleoperation experiments where astronauts controlled robots in real time. These experiences gave me a deep understanding of reliable robot operations and the untapped potential of teleoperation technologies. In a world increasingly driven by robotics and automation, I saw an opportunity to make robotic work more intuitive and accessible. This vision led me to start MF Robotics in 2020, where we focus on creating practical solutions that empower people to perform real work with robots.
