Courses taught:- SUSTAINABLE FINANCESustainable Finance can be defined as the practice of finance, embracing a triple bottom line: a comprehensive and concurrent pursuit of financial, environmental, and social objectives. The starting point will be the traditional premises of finance through the lens of increasing strain and pain points manifested in society, as evidenced by financial stress points, growing inequality, social injustice, distrust in institutions and international trade and exhausted planetary boundaries. Innovative solutions in the monetary, fiscal and public finance sphere will be canvassed coupled with new firm valuation approaches to address and mitigate the impact of referenced challenges.- RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENTS (Fall 23)

Prior courses taught:- CARBONOMICS AND RENEWABLE ENERGYThe course reviews the carbon cycle along with the environmental, social, and equity impacts linked to renewable energy projects. The course conveys solutions to optimize Middlebury’s project portfolio taking into account the relationship to financial, equity, and environmental considerations.- INVESTMENT MANAGEMENTThe course provides an overview of investment management, focusing on the application of finance theory to the issues faced by investment portfolio managers. The course is structured around four main areas: Investment Tools(I), Asset Classes(A), Portfolio Management and Performance Measurement(P). The course offers a solid foundation to the buy-side of the finance profession.- CAPITAL MARKETSThis course surveys the instruments traded in capital markets, the platforms which facilitate their issuance and trading, as well as the motivations of issuers across different asset classes. The course considers the rationale of asset markets along with pricing mechanisms of several asset classes. This course is geared towards the sell-side of the finance profession.- INTRODUCTION TO CORPORATE FINANCEAn introductory survey course reviewing how funds are allocated within the economy from those who save to those who invest or borrow, how securities are valued and how institutions raise money. The emphasis is on the fundamental concepts underlying modern finance, covering a range of topics, including: (1) discounted cash flow (2) valuation of financial securities and corporations, (3) market efficiency, (4) corporate financing and optimal capital structure, (5) financial distress and (6) international markets.- TRUST IN THE FINANCE INDUSTRY: 1971-2016 The course analyzes, on the intersection of economic theory, trust and crisis management, public (regulatory) and (emerging) private (Blockchain, crypto-currencies) response efforts to (25) financial crises during the last half-century.
