Philips Lighting was split from the mother company and with it came the name change to Signify. For me personally, I moved to the Electronics group within Research. While working closely with colleagues in development, we design new products and / or improve existing products.

For the entertainment business within Philips Lighting, we build a powerful and colorful spot, which is unique in its kind. Two prototypes where shown in November 2016, at the LDI tradeshow in Las Vegas. Some of the feedback we got from lighting engineers is listed below. With the prospect of a ‘sellable’ spot a product launch is scheduled within 8 months. To make this happen, we worked closely together with the entertainment business within Philips Lighting.1. James Schipper - (owner Kentic lighting LA , principal LD) – “seeing this is what all of us who love Vari-lite have been dreaming about when Philips came to town, something special that redefines how we are creative with light”2. Roland Grail – ( part of the Patrick Woodroffe AC/DC team , lead lighting director for Adele, Phil Collins & Rolling Stone) “this is going to blow Patrick and Adams mind it just has mine simply WOW, this has so many uses and so many applications it truly is the research the side or R&D that we rarely see in our industry, make sure you get it to Patrick, Adam and Terry as soon as possible."

In 2011 I joined the cell diagnostics project. In this project I was responsible for translating the needs of cell biologists into system specifications for set-ups that use impedance to sense cell growth and division. Such systems are used to study the fundamentals of application such as wound healing and light, cell interaction. This work was part of the development for the ‘blue touch pain relief patch’ of Philips.

In this time span I enjoyed working in various multi disciplinary teams. In very short time frames, we where able to shape promising concepts on paper into working demonstrators.1. Build a visual-aid tablet for visual impaired people.2. System to help people to relax and help them to fall asleep.3. Social connectedness between family members living apart.4. Indoor climate system.

I started at Philips Research in 1992, working on crt’s for tv applications as well as computer monitors. The main part of my work involved analog electronics in the deflection circuitry, high voltage generation and the video path.The focus of the group gradually changed from crt’s to flat panel displays, such as plasma, LCD and polyled. I embraced the digital electronics that came with these displays and took responsibility of such systems.
