Responsible for all credit related issues concerning Hydro Market’s entire portfolio of commercial counterparts (within electricity, natural gas, crude oil and liquid gas). The greatest immediate challenge was to build up a functioning system to monitor and follow up all counterparts and to establish a best practise for this function.

The main tasks of New Ventures are to identify and evaluate potential new core areas, to create entry footholds in prioritised areas and to start building sustainable business positions that over time develop into new Business Units for EPI. In my position as Business Controller I was responsible for follow-up and analysis of the economics of Hydro’s international new efforts and to offer support to the project managers. The job included economical analysis of projects, KPI’s, budgeting, management reporting, presentations, and liasing with operators and other partners on financial matters. In addition there were periodically on-site partner audits and hence a bit of travelling. Our activities in Libya and Trinidad consumed most of my time, but the dynamics of the department made this change frequently.

Responsible for the financial activities of the gas-shipping department including financing, budgeting, periodical and year-end reporting. Co-ordinator between AT&S and its shipping partners and other Hydro units on financial matters. Analysed and developed new shipping projects and prepared and negotiated following contract proposals. Worked on outsourcing of non-core activities. Financial controller of new JV, Carbonor S.p.A., from inception April 2000. As a Business Facilitator development of shipping strategies and partner relationships were also important tasks.

Oversaw and reported financial activities of Hydro’s gas shipping department. Responsible for co-ordination of shipping budgets. Member of all shipping related project groups as financial advisor, performing project analysis. Involved in contracting new buildings, refinancing, purchases, etc. Liaison with partner ship owners and actively involved in negotiating charterparties and establishing a new joint venture.

Administered financial accounts for five companies. Acted as principal liaison with financial institutions, investors and principals. Managed all internal and external reporting. Established and maintained fleet performance analysis and reviews. Restructured and implemented new accounting procedures throughout company. Assisted in preparing contract proposals. Worked on refinancing of fleet. Part of team working towards ISO and ISM certification. Managed claims with customers/underwriters and protection & indemnity club. Evaluated new projects.Charterer (June '95-Apr '96):Traded cargoes and assisted senior staff with voyage calculations. Responsible for all demurrage calculations for seven companies. Prepared reports for investors and banks. Trainee (Jul '94-Jun '95):Completed comprehensive training in chartering procedures, port operations , technical fleet management and quality assurance, and claims handling. Practical training sailing on board chemical tanker.
