Radio was a one-man department, working directly for the Master. As a Radio Officer, I stood a watch, 8 hours out of every 24 hours at sea. I used Morse code, Radio-Teletype, 2-way voice radio, as well as satellite text, data and telephone to handle message traffic, both civilian and military (including classified). My work included clerical ship's office.
