Headquartered in Karlsbad, Germany, with subsidiaries in Glendale, California; Yokohama, Japan; and Hangzhou, China.• Developed and implemented product strategy to monetize open source audio codec that was previously distributed for free. This new product offering generated the most revenue and profit of any new product released in my last three years at the company.• Structured business relationship and negotiated cloud syncing and storage business agreement in seven days with one of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers. Successfully replicated this model and negotiated corresponding agreements with several other large smartphone manufacturers and a storage device company. • Consistently achieved vastly superior results managing litigation as compared to similarly situated defendants sued by the same plaintiff. Jun 2005 - Nov 2007Palo Alto, Ca, UsServed as Chief Counsel and legal lead for CPU manufacturing group, integrated circuit testing and validation group, Sun e-commerce web store, Sun Publishing, and Global Business Services.• With my first project at Sun, dramatically improved the process to negotiate agreements with Sun’s largest outsourcing partner. Based on this success was asked to and did develop a companywide process to improve selection, management, and evaluation of companies providing inbound contract engineering services while concurrently lowering legal costs associated with entering into and maintaining such engagements.• After several sets of Sun attorneys were unable to complete a transaction, took over negotiations and employed a nuanced understanding of open source software to successfully complete agreement to license Sun’s StarOffice productivity suite to Google for inclusion as part of Google Pack, the pre-curser to Google Docs.• After more than three years of failed attempts by multiple Sun attorneys to complete a license-in of technology that prevented the release of a new product, took over negotiations and based on knowledge of underlying technology devised a solution that allowed the agreement to be completed in one week allowing for the release of delayed product. • Asked by fellow Sun attorney to hire litigation attorney with approved litigation budget and to initiate litigation on behalf of attorney’s internal client. Met with the client group, and based on an understanding of underlying technology determined that there was no litigated solution that would be of benefit. Scheduled a meeting with the opponent and in one meeting found a solution that was acceptable to both sides and the matter was resolved quickly and amicably.• Prepared training program on chip design and manufacture entitled “Chip Design for Lawyers” and presented to several non-technical groups at Sun and served as a resource to the litigation and patent groups when questions in these areas arose. -
