As a Psychology Major with a concentration in Human Development, I focus mostly on child and adolescent psychology. In January, I’ll start an Undergraduate Research Assistant position through the Cities Project working on implementing programming to address youth trauma and stress in Chicago Public Schools. I am an Undergraduate Research Assistant on a dissertation project focusing on Critical Consciousness and Health Disparities. These projects both feed my overarching career goal of researching cultural level trauma and health outcomes. I am currently completing my 500 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training and completed a 30 hour Trauma Sensitive Yoga training in 2024. This work has exposed me to the various ways to use breath and movement to empower people navigating compound struggles. My knowledge in somatic and body based therapies connects to my education in psychology and informs my interdisciplinary research questions that I am developing as I approach graduate level study. As a Vincentian Service Scholar through DePaul University, I have the gift of being exposed to many different components of Chicago’s cultural climate. This program has given me the opportunity to work in schools, community gardens, and community outreach centers that connect me to the immediate needs and lived experiences of various Chicago communities. This program includes various leadership and personal formation events that foster my desire to be a change maker and address the inequality I see in my community and the city of Chicago. I deeply value my education and am interested in shifting my academic focus towards Trauma Research. I aim to start a permanent shift in the awareness of how we take care of ourselves and others. I plan to use my degree from DePaul to pursue a Ph.D in Developmental Psychology and continue my research of youth trauma in school systems with a specific focus on the experiences of queer and transgender teens.
