In addition to sharing best practices among member institutions, SCCC also employs the efforts from AmeriCorps VISTA. The primary goal of VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is to alleviate poverty in some of the country's most disadvantaged communities. As a VISTA Leader, my primary tasks and obligations are to mentor and provide professional development opportunities to 9 AmeriCorps VISTA members who serve at our member institutions. During my year of service, I was able to leverage over 150 Wofford College students to participate in community service endeavors focusing on issues such as: food insecurity, education and economic inequality and lack of access to healthcare. As a Resident Assistant for Wofford College, I was responsible in assuring that my assigned residents abided by rules and regulations set forth by the college. In addition, I collaborated with other Resident Assistants in order to create educational programs for our residents. This role allowed me to immensely strengthen my interpersonal and conflict resolution skills as I played an integral part in residents' successful transition to college.

As a Medical Scribe, my duties were to record medical notes as dictated by Emergency Room Physicians as they met with patients during their shift. This position taught me how to be efficient, yet accurate in documenting patient matters. In addition, I was able to learn the importance of listening to patients' complaints and being able to glean the pertinent issues for their visits in order to increase the efficacy of the physician's work.
