Graduate Assistant For Recruitment
Co-Founder & Vice President Of Education
During my time working and serving this position, I have initiated and programed many educational, deliberative, conversational, and virtual events such as informing our community on topics of safety and justice, valley representation, immigration, and higher education through an event series called “Coffee & Conversations.” Additionally, I have also programmed events in honor of Constitution Day, Patriots Day, and Veterans Day, along with events in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, as well as Autism and Deaf History Month. Aside from these events, I carried out projects such as coordinating the third annual State of the Rio Grande Valley Conference, including several watch parties, debates, and discussions revolving around the presidential, senatorial, district, and local candidate officials; These conferences and social events were carried out for the purpose of establishing networking and understanding between UTRGV students, professors, faculty, staff, and administration of various topics related to state legislation, voting, career success, diversity, deaf and disability awareness among others as well as to spark conversations among our community and ultimately give our region a louder voice in the perspective of government and politics. To plan and carry out these events I would contact and collaborate with several organizations and special guest speakers, as well as prepare several documents, presentations, agendas, emails, marketing, and more to achieve the goal of spreading awareness of civic education and voting, as well as heritage, culture, gender, and disability awareness. Lastly, I have led and participated in many events and tabling’s (on-campus and virtually) to inform students how and where to vote as well as present on Census; As a Volunteer Deputy Registrar for the County of Cameron, Texas, I would also register students and community members to vote.
Student Assistant | Student Involvement
Event Programed for the Civic Engagement Alliance at UTRGV under the Student Activities for Student Involvement. Served additional role of Vice President of Education for CEA; I assisted with voter registration and voter outreach events to get out the vote as well as getting out the count for Census!
Student Academic Tutor - Political Science
As a student academic tutor within the UTRGVs' Athletic Department at the Victory Center, I would follow up with scheduled weekly tutoring appointments or new walk-in appointments for transferring and international student-athletes; some of the courses I tutored consisted mainly of Political Science, History and English, however, on occasion I would also tutor courses corresponding to the College of Liberal Arts. During my tutoring sessions, I would assist and provide resources to students when going over class assignments, reading chapters, and exam reviews by giving them strategies for study, collective note-taking tips, and descriptive explanations of what is being asked. I would also provide guidance and resources on how to properly search, cite, and use online research articles or any course materials provided to them as well as how to annotate and quote them. Lastly, I would conduct post tutoring reports and keep a record of the student-athletes' academic progress in their courses or classwork and add attendance for tutoring sessions.
Residential Assistant & Summer Camp Counselor
As a Residential Advisor and Summer Camp Counselor, I worked within UTRGVs' Mechanical Engineering Department at the dormitory of Unity Hall where I was in charge of looking after dual-credit high school student minors throughout their one-month summer program, U-PREP. I was in charge of looking after the students at all times during the week; this included checking students in and out of the dorms when needed for their classes, taking them to breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as making sure they are in their dorm rooms by the given curfew. Lastly, I would also counsel the students on their courses, guide them on navigating the universities' online homepage, blackboard, as well as any other programs or sites they needed assistance with.
