Senior Contract Analyst - Materials ManagementUnited States Steel Corporation Nov 2013 - Nov 2014Greater Pittsburgh AreaI can proudly say that I am part of an organization that that is actively changing their entire culture by completely rethinking how business is done and acknowledging why this change is necessary to achieve a sustainable future. I can also say that I am proud that I, along with many others, am the reason this shift is occurring. As a team member of the Contractor Services Initiative, and lead scope of work developer for the Mon Valley Complex, I have had the privilege and the great opportunity of learning a lot about the company and its different operational divisions in such a short amount of time. I work with all operations and maintenance personnel to develop SOW’s throughout three different plants, and over ten divisions. The scope of work process not only clearly defines a job, but also challenges management to think about how to perform work more efficiently and cost effectively. The main benefit the SOW process has created has been significant reductions in maintenance costs by; reduced amount of non essential maintenance jobs, decrease in outside contractor costs, increase in competitive bidding, etc. The SOW process forces management to be more resourceful by creating more innovative solutions to routine and non routine problems.• Development of Scopes of Work, create RFQ packages, coordinate bid walks• Project Carnegie Team Member• Compliance and enforcement of all U. Operations Supervisor - Sunrise ShiftUps Apr 2013 - Apr 2014New Stanton, PaMy typical day at UPS on the sunrise shift started at 1:00am. I started by going to the dispatch center to find out how many loads of packages we would be processing and the departure location of where they were coming from. From there, I worked with my counterpart to figure out the number of pieces per trailer that would be processed; based upon that, we were able to calculate the man power that was needed for that day. This process had to be completed by 1:45am so that we could recruit midnight double-outs to supplement our staffing. The next hour was spent recruiting the double outs, programming scanners, and assisting midnight shift in wrapping up their areas. At 2:45am, the hourly employees shift began, and we started by having a 5-10 minute pre-sort meeting. The meeting consisted of reviewing any injuries that occurred the previous day for all shifts and a daily safety tip; we also discussed our package service level and audit findings for the previous day. By 2:55am, we were out on the floor and we did a 'hand shake' style switch from Midnight shift to Sunrise shift. Throughout the night, we would deal with a range of potential issues such as; belt jams, damaged packages that had hazardous potential, and bottlenecks of trying to switch out trailers while keeping the operations continuously running; the success of the entire sort lied with making the right decisions in a split second. We also had to be very mindful of scheduled pull times for trailers that contained next day air packages that had to leave the building by a certain time in order for them to arrive at the customer on time; because of this the Unload had to be completed by 5:10am in order to wrap the entire building up by 5:30am. The next hour was typically spent prepping the area for the next shift, processing any severely damaged packages or re-packs, and writing various different reports; this work had to be completed by no later than 6:45am. UPS operations are extremely time sensitive. -
