While originally engaged to assist in development of and maturing robots used in crop genetic manipulation, from automated microscopic growth analysis to sampling and beyond, the role quickly grew to tackling the enterprise needs. This included architecture and development to provide support for “floors” or robots, implementing workflow, implementing robust security, fault tolerance, cloud integration, reporting, vendor integration and database architecture – to name only a few. Provided cross-topography optimizations, from robot/desktop apps to REST APIs, Databases, Image Storage and Reporting apps and services. Provided customized DevOps pipelines for specific automated build, test and “slotted” deployments. The applications were full stack implementations leveraging C#, MVC, REST APIs, MS SQL Server, Duende Identity Server/OpenID Connect and MFA against local Domain, Azure B2C and other providers.

Provided full stack development in C# for their NuVasive ERP System and Oracle-to-SQL integration. Engagement included DevOps evolution, urgent repair and dramatic enhancement of REST API implementation including automating Code Reverse Engineering and Re-Generations based on enhanced models. Revamped database interactions and provided cross-schema optimizations across various databases and servers.

FCS Consulting was engaged by Forbes Media and Bridgepoint Education to design, build, deploy and support the cloud based Learn@Forbes e-learning platform. This product (https://learn.forbes.com/) is a B2B/B2C product used by numerous government and civilian organizations as well as individuals for premier business and technology courses and custom learning paths.From a product perspective, FCS designed and implemented social platform integrations for publishing course certifications (such as LinkedIn), Machine Learning to build learning path packages of course recommendations for a career paths, Campaign Creation and Management support, Course Maintenance and Reporting, Client Self-Administration, promotional campaign capabilities, course purchase and subscription models and many other B2B/B2C product capabilities in this competitive space. From a technical perspective, FCS implemented full CI/CD across the topography for Dev, QA, Staging and Production environments, production monitoring, incident detection, resolution and mitigation, published secure APIs for integration with vendors and B2B relationships, On-Prem to Azure integrations and migrations, SSO and Identity Management along with the expected suite of Azure on On-Prem SQL and other repository integrations. The technology leveraged with predominately .NET Core, C#, ASP.NET MVC, Java/Typescript, Angular, Bootstrap, Identity Server, numerous Azure services across the IAAS to PAAS offerings, SQL Server/Azure SQL Server, ADO.NET, TopHat and Azure Git repos, Azure DevOps/VSTS to name a few. As President I also provided technical direction and coordination across the various internal and external teams, cost controls for the client, budgeting, staffing and technical product roadmaps, vendor coordination and localized FCS leadership across Learn@Forbes executive management changes and Forbes/Bridgepoint board oversight.

FCS Consulting was initially contracted by Inseego to port legacy VB back-office services and private Web App to Azure, C# and Asp.NET MVC as part of the Inseego global ERP consolidation/migration effort. The effort quickly morphed to FCS tasked with providing resources to assist in global program management across US, Europe, Africa, Australia, project manager and assistance across numerous projects including admin and training fir Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Sharepoint Migration/Automation, interface at API layer with NetSuite (in concert with 360 Cloud Solutions), Azure LogicApps/Function Apps, NetSuite to SQL sync jobs, numerous micro-services, Informatica, to name only a few projects.

The original engagement was to assist development and implementation of a highly customized Polymer framework implementation used in the Back-Surgery assistance software. This later also involved design and implementation of the X-Ray imaging and patient/table/C-Arm X-Ray machine tracking via creation of Quaternion libraries. Additionally assisted in the customized build/deployment pipelines and automated testing to meet medical verification and quality control requirements.

FCS was hired by Blast Motion to fix the Identity Server, identity management and OAUTH implementations. The fix allowed for immediate growth by tens of thousands with minimal maintenance vs. the previous implementation. Additionally implemented proper CI/CD for the web applications and services and SQL Servers across the Dev->Prod spectrum, reducing cost and time-to-market for fixes and enhancements. Engagement expanded to addressing fundamental architectural issues, mobile apps security issues, server side performance issues (reducing data processing times from hours to seconds) all while reducing overall Azure footprint and associated expense. Additionally addressed engineering management issues relative to the SDLC, including team composition transitions (management and team members), role identification and other touched points.

The primary purpose of this engagement was to establish a development team/presence in San Diego for the client. To provide focus, I was responsible for converting legacy applications written as classic VB.NET ASP with direct SQL calls to C#.NET 6, MVC .NET, Entity Framework leveraging Angular 1 w/gentle migration to Angular 2. • For areas of client focus, architected new approach consistent with clients vision, provided development plan and resource planning as well as oversight for local development team resulting in highly accurate delivery schedule, near zero defects and role model for existing teams• Architected and implemented new approach for processing version data from external entities resulting in dramatically simplified development effort, reduced complexity and increased performance (99.5% performance improvement, critical for processing the hundred of Terabytes of files)• Developed a host of tools to assist developers and QA in code generation, automated testing (including at CI build layer) and automated/manual test suited for QA and Developers to use. Most tools were Windows Services, Command-Line, WinForms or add-ins for Visual Studio. This allowed the client to test 100% of available data through the application for applicable / definable scenarios. The result is saving many hundreds of development and QA hours for the 60+ team members.

This contract was to assist Audatex with the corporate merger and office consolidation effort from their satellite development offices to a single dev center in Utah. The contract was to provide the business with a consultant team capable of addressing critical issues and maintain business and technical knowledge while the new teams were being built out in Utah. The legacy technologies ranged from ASP to VB 6.0 COM components hosted in COM+ to C/C++ support DLLs, C# WinForms, MVC, Angular, Javascript, Typescript and numerous other client / server side technologies and approaches. Additionally the engagement was to rewrite key legacy sub-systems that had become too fragile to maintain. The new sub-system components were constructed to be Micro-Service friendly with tolerance and performance driving factors. The technologies and services ranged from C#, MVC, Angular, Typescript, Javascript, JQuery, RabbitMQ and numerous other server/client side plug-ins and services. Additionally the contract included identifying and fixing the numerous and significant performance issues across the products. This included identifying and fixing improper configuration of Oracle drivers (reduced query times from minutes to seconds or less) as well as providing surgical fixes to ASP pages, implementing Async AJAX requests to a new WebAPI 2.0 Service Tier making optimized Oracle package calls as well as Creation of new Oracle Packages cutting round trip time from minutes to sub-second. Finally the engagement was to provide enhancements to their CM Practices, including versioning, build and deploy mechanics and tools as well as traceability from request to code.

Contracted by Sony Electronics to significantly enhance existing support products as well as to design and deploy new solutions leveraging cutting-edge technologies to automate diagnostics and metrics collection and reporting across devices, ranging in OS’s from Windows to Android and iOS running on classic desktops/laptops to mobile devices, cameras, TV’s, etc. The metrics were collected into a cloud based solution (AWS NoSQL Redshift, DynamoDB, MySQL) and numerous web apps and services written in Node.js / Typescript, Jquery, Angular and a wealth of components across dynamically scaling EC2 instances via ELB, VPC, S3 automations and Amazon Mobile Analytics for Multi-Terabyte repositories and interfaces to Petabytes repositories. The engement was also to pilot evaluation of AWS Lambda, Kinesis and IoT. An additional effort was to rewrite a client and server side web app written primarily in Javascript to control multiple TV browsers and panels via one or more tablets or laptops for displaying 4K videos across the selected TV’s and devices.

Contracted by Towers Watson to help across the engineering spectrum to quickly increase product quality and return product to a predictable schedule. This has included identification and resolution or recommendation of changes from management approach, SDLC/Process adjustments, team adjustments, direct management and training where needed for internal and off short teams, architecture review and changes, among numerous other changes. From a hands-on perspective I took complete ownership for the databases, such as providing an entire database re-architecture to more natively support the multi-data center topography including replication and authentication for this targeted multi-billion row databases, dramatically increased internal product performance to sub-second, provided full build, deploy and test automation from CI thru Production. On the web application side, implemented changes to architecture, support technologies and resolved product foundation-level issues or enhancements. Development involved C#.Net 4.5, ASP.NET MVC 4, Typescript, Javascript, JQuery, NHibernate, WCF, SQL Server 2012, TFS, Team City among many others.

Contracted by Sony to provide immediate resolutions for a product and project in crisis, as well as to architect a new set of software products with “Mobile” focus to provide assistance to cross the Sony product line. Also responsible for definition of new DB systems, jobs and services as well as related coding and implementation across Mobile tier, service tiers, repositories and internal support web applications. Responsibilities were full spectrum within the engineering domain, such as topography definition and roadmap for several product lines and areas, Roles and Responsibilities definitions, SDLC and CM Process evolution, consulting to on-staff PM among others. Additionally solely responsible for optimizing legacy report generations over multi-billion record tables from 40+ hour execution time to now sub-second. Development involved C#.Net 4.5, ASP.NET MVC 4, Javascript, WCF, Node.js, Parse.com, NGinix, Apache, Linux (Red Hat/CentOS), SQL Server 2012 among many others.

Providing consultant services utilizing .NET 4, ASP.NET MVC, WCF, SQL, LINQ, Code Gen, JQuery, Javascript, Kendo, Knockout among other technologies. Effort includes rapid development of new Web sites and performance optimization across tiers using various tools as well as providing recommendations/ad-hoc training on more advanced techniques in management, project monitoring, architecture and programming. Also providing alternatives for automation of process and management attributes thru integration of MS Project, Issue tracking system, Team Foundation Server, Enterprise test automation and other sources enabling capture/monitoring of granular details while providing high level project/product assessments.

Worked on various products and technologies, such as LINQ, WPF, C++, C#, SQL Server on Windows 7 and now Metro on Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2011 and the latest related .NET. Some efforts included creation of kernel mode driver (using C) for Windows 8, to provided data for the Metro App (BIOS tables and other information). Effort also included work to provide demos of new product ideas, resulting in 4 patent pendings. Provided initial development of SQL architecture/scripts for high speed processing and reporting across billions of rows of data. Also provided recommendations as well add implementations of improvements in configuration management and Dev processes, such as improvements to SCCS process and techniques, MS Project utilization and automation, branching and labeling techniques for future automation.

Contracted by Towers Watson to work with their international teams to port a legacy ASP.NET / Web Service application to an MVC / WCF based application leveraging DI (Dependency Injection) via Castle and JQuery(UI). Engagement consisted of:• Provided training and guidance on MVC, corresponding robust modeling, WCF, threading, security and others technologies and approaches.• Coded foundational layer of MVC Implementation across tiers open which applications were built. Also developed custom Role Provider, security/thread principal implementation and serialization, and custom request “context” management and serialization to shelter dev teams from cross-tier complexity.• Assisted with implementation of Dependency Injection across tiers• Developed new charting engine and redesigned many pages to use the new engine.• Implemented numerous VS 2010 Add-Ins for Code Injection and Instrumentation available for use in production runtime support using high-speed shared memory.

Initial contracted as Sr. Architect to provide prototype WPF app, hosting large custom OCX written in C++, and to make changes to the C++ HTTP requests to instead route thru WCF Services created as part of the prototype. Contract evolved to also include providing training to local and remote teams on items such as WPF, LINQ (in general and To SQL and To XML), test automation. Also established and setup TFS structure, processes, integration with process templates (such add Cochanga), MS Test Lab, Unit Tests and integration with Continuous Integration builds and test automation (and other build processes and automatons). Provided training and management of reverse engineering techniques and documentation, including full traceability mechanics (i.e. Reverse engineer Requirements, UI specs, Deb specs, etc. all traceable between docs down to code level and thru QA verification)

Contracted by Watson Wyatt to urgently resolve numerous product and process issues and to design/develop product enhancements for their new flagship, multi-culture sensitive product. Organizational improvements included providing tools for use across organization in resource tracking, training and process improvements.The hands-on architecture and programming portion of the contract consisted of:• Developed code reverse engineer and instrumentation add-ins for Visual Studio• Provided numerous enhancements to teams via cross-training of advanced features in .NET, including LINQ, multi-threading, reflections, extenders, etc.• Provided wealth of one-on-one training to teams in proper use of SQL capabilities, such as partitioning, profiling and optimization, indexing strategies, among others.As engagement hours regularly consisted of 80-110hr/wk, I was able to resolve issues in all areas of the product(s), including Web UI (ASP.NET/Javascript/jQuery), Middle Tiers (C#.NET), Web Services and Proxies layers (C#.NET), other Business Objects (C#.NET) and Data Tier/Database (C#/SQL 2005/2008).

Retained by LPL to fill numerous roles, such as Enterprise Architect to Programming Lead. Architecture tasks were at the enterprise layer with responsibilities of oversight of projects from architectural perspective, including review and sign-off authority for all software documents required for SOX and other regulatory requirements. Programming was for highly compressed schedule/very complex projects. Management efforts included staffing proposals, task definition, and project estimates.

As an independent consultant to this outsourcing firm, responsibilities range included providing sales assistance, architectural recommendation for proposals, local vs. off-shore allocations for engagements, project estimates to hands-on development for very-to-extremely complex / high-risk efforts. Provided architecture and development work for numerous clients.

• Contracted to assume overall ownership for the conversion of the LPL billing system, currently responsible for over one-third of the yearly income for this multi-billion dollar company. • The conversion was from a Unix Perl/Sybase system to a load-balanced, fault-tolerant, high-speed C#.NET Intranet implementation. • Fulfilled the business requirement of near zero user community impact, while greatly enhancing the capabilities of the billing system in areas such as performance, scalability, and administration. • This effort consisted of all attributes such as budgeting, staffing, analysis, architecture, development management, verification and release management.• Responsible for conducting analysis including trends and projections, designing product architecture, determining implementation infrastructure needs and development technologies. Additionally generated cost-center based project budget data, project plans, conducted status meetings, as well as technical and user reviews.

• Redesigned entire Portfolio management package from Single-Threaded/Text Interface/C-Isam based application to Multi-Threaded/Windows NT GUI Interface/RDBMS based. • Developed Print Controllers for all firm printing with printer independence and Print preview capabilities and billing, Automated print archive controllers, Mainframe replacement applications to enable and handle distributed processing in on-line and batch mode environment across non-direct connected networks. • Designed and developed a generic institutional interface system, which greatly assisted client to rapidly grow from $1.2 Billion to $6 Billion under Management with system currently handling over 60 various institutional interfaces.
